About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

 Inception and Location: 

                 Jawahar   Navodaya  Vidyalaya , Washim  was  established  in 1994-95  at Lakhala,  Washim  in  Akola  district  of  Maharashtra. The Vidyalaya was located on Risod Road ,2 kms away from Washim and 85 kms away Akola from district headquarters on   Bombay-Calcutta National Highway No.6. Equipped with sufficient/ specious administrative   block  having  22   rooms  and  hostel  building  having  44  rooms including  a  big   dining  hall and a few staff  quarters  provided  by  the  Deputy  Director of  Education, Amravati Div. Amravati. 


                       Shri. C.B. Lal , Chief Engineer , Central  PWD  laid  down the foundation stone of the Vidyalaya Complex in presence of Hon. Sanjay Shethi, IAS, District  Magistrate & Chairman,  VMC  on  15th Feb 1999. The first phase of construction work of the Vidyalaya Complex was completed in 18 months & the Vidyalaya shifted from its temporary site in to the permanent site in Nov 2000.

 Temporary Accommodation: 

                  The Vidyalaya started its functioning   in the buildings of Govt. D.Ed. College, Lakhala, Washim, provided by the Dy. Director of Education, Amravati, Div.  Amravati  at free of cost, in 1994. The Vidyalaya was running in   the temporary   accommodation  for  seven  years  till  its  shifting  to  the  permanent site .

 School Plant:        

The  Vidyalaya  has  got  33  acres of  land  on  Kata  Road,  Washim.  The construction work of the Vidyalaya buildings has been done by the Central Public Works Dept, (CPWD). Nagpur

          Five  dormitories,  each  having  96  beds , one  mess  cum  dining  hall ,16 staff quarters, 10  warden  quarters, 12 group D  quarters, one Principal quarter   and one Guest house, one  overhead  water  tank , internal  roads  & electrification   works had been completed by 2002 . One more boy’s dormitory having capacity of 48 beds was constructed in 2008. The Vidyalaya is depend on   three  bore-wells  & supply of water by Municipal Corporation,   which  is  not  sufficient   in   summer   hence   the  Vidyalaya  has  own open well in its  premises  to  sort  out  this  problem.


               It is  said  that  knowledge  is  power  &  library  of  the  Vidyalaya  is  the storehouse of knowledge. This Vidyalaya has got a big spacious & well-furnished library having sitting capacity of 40 students at a time. At present there   are 5548 books on various subjects .The Vidyalaya library subscribes nearly 30 educational & general knowledge magazines & 12 newspapers in Marathi, Hindi & English.

          All   these   books   have   been arranged subject wise to facilitate the students &   teachers to get them easily as and when required .The   librarian issues these books to the students during library hours.

          E-Granthalaya software for library management has been installed and data is being entered regulary. Eduacational CDs are also available in library for teachers and students.

 Book Bank: 

     In addition to the   above, a book bank is established in the classroom as well as in dormitories. The    parents / teachers / ex-students have been appealed to donate good books to enrich the knowledge of our students.The response of the parents /teachers /ex-students is encouraging. The librarian maintains record of the same.

 Mess Management: 

             To   keep   us healthy, physically fit & mentally sound good, qualitative & nutritious food is essential .Our Vidyalaya Mess provides such food to the students.  A menu is prepared in consultation with the mess committee members & the Vidyalaya honorary doctor. As far as possible the efforts are made to provide the same.  The ration & other items like vegetables, fruits, eggs, snacks etc. are purchased by   tender   procedure.  The Local Purchase Committee, headed by the Principal has been constituted to inspect the quality & quantity of the supplies. In addition to this a Mess Committee has been constituted, consisting of Vice- Principal, All HMs, Staff Nurse, Catering Assistant, School Prefect & All House Captains.  They   check   the quality & quantity   of the   food provided   to the students.  The Mess is equipped with sufficient kitchen & utensils/instruments such as flour-mill, grinder, mixer, refrigerator, Gas connection etc .All students take their food with their House Masters. Food is served by the students on duty. Special attention is given to maintain neatness & cleanliness of   kitchen, Dining Hall, Pantry & other surrounding area.

 Migration System: 

   Migration system in our Vidyalaya is working very smoothly achieving the exact aims & objectives of the Samiti. Our Vidyalaya has been linked with JNV, Khedali, and District Dausa in Rajsthan. Every year 30 % students of the total strength in class IX are sent to the linked Vidyalaya. They come back enriched with culture, Custom & language of the state .The Rajsthani students who come to the Vidyalaya have also the same memorable sweet experiences  of  Maharashtra  Culture,  custom,  food habits,  language of the state & other related things.

 Computer Literacy: 


           Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is a residential school from class VI to XII fully   financed   by Govt. of India .The government is introducing various projects  and  schemes  to  make   the   Teaching  Learning  process   more effective.

   Computer   Literacy   program is   one of   such programmes that has been given   prime    importance   by   the   government.  Recently this programme is modified and its range is widened .It has been taken into consideration that the most effective form of Teacher Training Process is application based training where   teachers learn computer skills within the context of their teaching. Once the teachers & students get introduced   with its devices, they will use the computers in their day to day Teaching Learning Process by putting together contents from various sources & creating Multimedia Teaching Aids. Using the fonts & their own voice along with the interactive graphics, pictures & movies. They can easily explain /comprehend difficult concepts.

      As a part of this programme, our school has got 46 computers with 1 server, & 1 Laptop with BSNL Broadband Internet Connectivity. The students & teachers are getting the practical knowledge of computer. Time table has been fixed for this purpose. Everyone is keen to learn & avail the benefits of this programme. A Faculty Cum System Administrator has been appointed on the contract   basis. All teachers are doing their work like preparing of Question Papers, Split up of syllabus, Models, projects, results analysis etc. on computer.  The students have got basic knowledge of computer & they can easily operate the systems. This programme seems to be very useful / beneficial not only to the teachers but also to the students in their teaching learning process.
